ST. PATRICK’S LUNCH PROGRAM 2009-2010

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new school year. As part of our new school lunch program,
Green Rock, positive changes are being implemented and we want to encourage your children to participate in the lunch program.

What's cooking this year at St. Pat's?

We're cooking up a storm!!!! This year we have eliminated pre-packed 'heat and serve' foods as well as fried foods. The menu will be posted on a monthly basis via the school website and Edline. We will strive to create menus and meals that are healthy, seasonal, delicious and reflective of the ethnic diversity of the community as a whole.

Positive changes include:

Organic salad bar with daily soup selection
Removed 95% of processed foods
Hormone and antibiotic-free milk and eggs
Organic milk and yogurt tubes, hummus, string cheese, pita chips etc.,
all will be available, a la carte.
Fresh fruit & vegetables served daily
Majority of foods purchased locally
80% of meats & poultry (including hamburgers & hot dogs)
natural, nitrate - free
Daily vegetarian option
Eco - Ware paper products

The changes that are being made are part of an effort to serve more nutritious, delicious, freshly prepared meals using locally-grown foods to all the students.
This will also help to educate children in the kitchen, garden and academic classrooms about their food choices and the impact they have on their health, community and
our environment.

We hope you will join us in helping our children become aware of healthy food options. Together we can help raise a new generation of healthier and eco-conscious children.

Bon appétit!

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
The menu will be available four weeks ahead of time. It will be posted on EDLINE
by following the ‘Lunch’ link; it will also be available in school office. The daily menu offerings will include a salad bar, daily soup selection, entrée with accompaniments, dessert and bottled water. A la carte items will include organic milk, chocolate milk, assorted organic yogurt tubes, cheese sticks etc. Menu subject to change due to
school functions and/or availability.
